Rainy Vancouver, Longing for Alaska

Sitting in Kamloops little over a 2 days ago, I remember thinking how much I missed Vancouver, the solitude of the rain has always fasinated me and I enjoy the feeling and sound of rain pelting roof tops and roadways, this might be cause I grew up walking to school everyday in this kind of isolation. But as I sit here this morning with my cup of coffee, looking out the window at the little drizle clinging to the raining of our deck, I think to myself do I really miss this? I was going to venture outside this morning and head to the waterfront, either running or with my camera but this rain is not motivating me much lol. However there isnt much that I can do but sit here and hope for it to eventually let up, this isnt too bad, a morning of relaxation is a good thing but thinking about it im wondering if all those days I sat thinking about the old days of the rainy lower mainland, I wounder now if I would ever be able to take this for an extended period of time. Hahaha o well thats a thought line I dont need to be thinking about. My trip to Alaska is! Im getting totally stoked up, now that we have come down to Vancouver it is all that much closer! I can only hope that this weather is not going to follow us, but if it does I wont mind as much as I do with this mornings weather as the Alaskan Coastline and mountain ranges provide excellent foregrounds for low hanging cloud, mist, rain and fog to frame in all its white glorry and provide me with harsh constrasts and stunning colors neccessary for excellent photos of both black/white and color origin. Man how feelings can be changed about a substance like rain and clouds with a simple change of location. So Im out until I return from the trip on August 31, keep it real for us all, I will be sure to return with some excellent displays of both the alaskan lifestyle, landscape and my photographic talent, if there is any lol.

So yesterday was my last day of work for the summer, wow it was so slow it was almost agonizing. I leave for Vancouver on Tuesday, only a few more days, im so stoked. I have almost everything i need for the trip, I have downloaded a few videos on my ipod, i have a very good supply of photo magazines and a good book. This morning I got all my film ready, as you know this is what im looking forward to the most. Alaska is suppose to be one of the most photogenic locations in all of north america with amazing landscapes, crystal glaciers and icebergs, and wildlife that comes to supprising closeness. Anyways I have bought 34 rolls of film for the trip.

15 rolls of 200 ASA color, 6 rolls of 400 ASA color, 3 rolls of 800 ASA color, 5 rolls of 400 ASA B/W, and 5 rolls of 100 ASA B/W

I think this will be a very workable amount of film and hopefully I get some epic shots to display for you all, let you know soon.

      -FugiFilm 1gb XD card

Nikon F50
      -Nikkor 35-80mm 4-5.6D
      -Nikkor 70-300mm 4-5.6D
      -Nikon Speedlight SB-27

Dakine Sequence (this is the best action/outdoor camera bag ever)

Optex KT3000 tripod

Haha its been awhile since I have been on here so i thought i would update my list of equipment. So this is my camera set-up as of August 2008. The Nikon F50 is the camera I use for most of my serious photography with the Fujifilm being the advanced point and shoot digital camera i use when im looking to take less serious picture and need something easier to handle with less bulk and weight. Often I think about buying a DSLR like a Nikon D60 or Canon Rebel XtI but I still like the versatility of film and i have recently started taking black/white rolls that i develope myself and have been enjoying substantionally. In addition, the cost of digital, even now has common down to below $700 canadian is still a sizable cost for my summer job to supply when looking at all the other cost I sustain. I will continue to update you all on other changes to my equipment, and in addition i have a planned trip to Alaska on Norwiegen Cruise Line on August 24, update you soon.
